A Photo tour in Iceland

An interesting, informative and usuful tour in Iceland, where you can try out your skill in photographic seenery as well as been guided around this beautiful island with Icelands top guide, Oli, the most experienced traveller, guide, tourleader and birdwatcher Iceland has got to offer.


Day 1. Arrival 9.6.
Arrival to Keflavik Airport, transfer by Reykjavik Excursions to your accommodation in Reykjavik, Evening free.

Day 2. 10.6.
We start our tour with a visit to the City Hall in Reykjavik and take a look at the three dementional large map of Iceland to familirise ourselfs with Iceland and our track. Seenery, buildings, monuments or landscape in the town might grap your attention and as we are at ease, selection of good spots will be tackled. Leaving Reykjavik we aim for the whale fjord Hvalfjodur, which is a bit out of the trafic and has good settings to offer. Gravel roads take us up to waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss. These two items could occupy us for a day or two but we are interested in showing you variations of sites, the interior as well as man made objects. We shall as well visit Europe´s most effective hot spring at Deildartunga. Overnight at Hotel Hamar, near Borgarnes.

Day 3. 11.6.
We hit road no 1. in Iceland, the Ringroad, which could take you all around the island if interested but we shall be making it slower and suggestions from our travellers will be answered during our transport day to Akureyri, the Capital of the North. Overnight in the town.

Day 4. 12.6.
Lake Myvatn is only a hours drive away but on our way we will stop at waterfall Godafoss. Our guide will lead you to the truth, reasons or explain each of these strange names, which either are linked with history or nature. Myvatn´s birdlife will be at its blossom in June, with more than 10 different spieces of duck, an interesting task for every photographer. Lava formations, hot springs and false craters will be among other things crossing our eyes. Accommodation will be near Husavik village, in cottages, which will be shared by two persons each. Whale watching tours, 3 hours will be on offer (optional) in the evenings, and remember on 12th of June, daylight lasts almost 23 hours!!

Day 5 13.6.
During this day we will concentrade on the north part of Iceland, drive via Tjörnes peninsula, stop at Mánarbakki farm, then on the cliffs facing the North See, down to Axarfjord and north to Melrakkaslétta. Our task is to walk to Raudinúpur, on the beach as well as on the heights, observing this nordic nature at it full power. Driftwood, numerous birds, even scarecrows will grap your attention, not to mention canyons, lakes and dessert land. Same overnight.

Day 6. 14.6.
To day we make it as far as to Dettifoss, Europe´s most powerful waterfall, along with Ásbyrgi formation, Hafragilsfoss and Selfoss waterfalls and end the day in the new lavafield of Krafla vulcano and hot springs at Námaskard. Same overnight and whale watching tours are still on offer.

Day 7. 15.6.
The morning is a rest time, one can walk down town, admire the church, visit museums like The Whales Museum and The Icelandic Phallological Museum, one of its kind in the whole world. Flowers, buildings and boats, you name it. Early afternoon we set up for our drive back to Skagafjordur in the west, going through Akureyri again and picking up interesting places which we either did not have time or or lights and weather did not permit shooting on our earlier run through. Overnight in Skagafjordur.

Day 8. 16.6.
Today we will travel through the interior, crossing Iceland on the route Kjölur, with numerous places to stop at, Hveravellir, Kjalhraun, Hvítárnes, Geysir hot springs and Gullfoss to name a few. After a long drive and many stops we will check in at hour hotel in Fludir for a dinner and overnight.

Day 9. 17.6.
This is Icelands Indipendance day and driving through Skalholt Bishopery and Hveragerdi town we will reach the capital in good time to celebrate the 64th aniversary of the Republic of Iceland. Parades will be down town, the city will be decorated and dances practised on the streets into the early mornings!!

Day 10. 18.6.
Today you can wrop up your Icelandic adventure with shopping, a visit to the Blue Lagoon or take the Reykjavik Excursion bus directly to Keflavik Airport well in time for your departure flight back home.
